Umeshiso cupping spoons are more than just beautiful and colourful. Founded by Umeko Motoyoshi, Umeshiso promotes coffee education, inclusion and community for under represented members of the coffee community, celebrating women, femmes, nonbinary and trans folks, BIPoC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color), and allies.

Umeshiso has two styles of cupping spoon: the Big Dipper and the Little Dipper. The Little Dipper is shorter, with a heavier weight and deeper bowl. It's great for long-haul cupping tables because the deeper bowl prevents spillage. The Little Dipper is available in a number of colourways:

    • Gold: Cause you're my golden hour, the color of my sky. This classic gold finish goes with everything and pops beautifully on the cupping table. And you know everything's gonna be all right.
    • Black: Slurp black coffee with an even blacker spoon. Be infinite, like the night, like the cosmos. This pitch-black cupping spoon is perfect for vampires, witches, Posh Spice, Johnny Cash, emo-identified individuals, and of course goths.
    • Rose Gold: Stay rosy with your very own rose gold-plated, stainless steel cupping spoon! This beautiful finish looks like sunsets and stonefruit.
    • Rainbow: "I've always had a fraught relationship with cupping. (Being corrected on tasting notes, embarrassed, not knowing what bergamot tastes like). So I wanted rainbow cupping spoons, to disarm something that scared me. It reminds me that I can be myself - femme, queer, biracial, sensitive - and also do my job and taste coffee. All those things are possible at once! In Feb of 2018, I started the Rainbow Spoon project. I mailed out a rainbow spoon, for free, to anyone who asked. To rad, amazing women, femmes & nb folks, and our allies. After sending out 75 spoons, I unfortunately was no longer able to provide them for free! (As the spoons were paid for out of pocket). Thank you for sharing this journey with me. I think we’re all in this together, cupping the rainbow."
      -Umeko Motoyoshi

And yes, these cupping spoons are also perfect for ice cream, cereal, soup, and anything else you can eat with a spoon!

  • What is cupping? It’s a way to evaluate coffee quality. Cupping is favored by coffee professionals because it’s an easy way to taste multiple coffees at once. But anyone can do it!

If you'd like to cup at home, you just need one or more coffees, a cupping spoon, and a few uniform-size cups in the 6- to 8-oz range.

Add 12 grams of ground coffee to each cup and pour hot water directly onto the grounds, filling the cup all the way to the top. An aromatic crust of coffee grounds will form on the surface. After four minutes, break the crusts with a cupping spoon. Then use the cupping spoon to dip into the coffee, which you slurp from the spoon.

It sounds totally weird but - well, yes it is totally weird. But fun! If you have never cupped before, we recommend checking out an online article or video tutorial - luckily there are tons! Just do a google search for "how to cup coffee".

Customers praised this cupping spoon as "the best for its price," highlighting its deep bowl, perfect size, and beautiful rainbow colors. Many found it "fantastic" for coffee cupping and versatile for other uses. However, some noted quality concerns including scratches, unrefined edges, and poor finishing details despite the higher price point.

Best cupping spoon you can get for its price (in my opinion)

It is a cupping spoon that I would consider the best because of how deep it goes and how concave it is. It is pretty similar to the supergood spoony but I would say this one is much much better because not only is it a lot deeper, it also has a bigger diameter.

Failed my expectation

Being on Hoffmann's channel, I have high expectation on the quality of the spoon. I found the spoon scratched WITHOUT being used. It is only wrapped with a thin plastic bag with no protection, unlike Brewista one. Given its high price for just a spoon, the edges are not refined. These happen among all types of their spoons. I am quite disappointed with the details despite its acceptable material quality.

Nice Color

The color is very nice but they could improve the built quality by chamfering the edges

Great spoon for cupping

The size of the spoon makes it ideal for cupping or even just that first stir and sip from a regular pour over. Or much else to say about it. The colour has held up well after many trips through the dishwasher.

Fancy!

Nothing makes me feel fancier than reaching for my coffee spoons. I have a big and little dipper, and two of the mini ones, and they're all great. The story of this spoon company is inspiring, too!

I like the black but…

Really like the shape of the spoon but find it is getting a bitscratched up after a few months of use.

multi-dimensional weapon

Yes - you read that correctly. The Umeshiso, little dipper, is a multi-dimensional weapon. Excellent for cupping, and also doubles as an exceptional ice cream scooper, soup slurrrrping spoon and for the mornings where the oatmeal needs a little more excitement. The spoon is great - very strong, sturdy and nice to look it. Also weighted nicely.

Beautiful Cupping Spoon

Bought the smaller version of the spoon and it is the perfect size. Depth of bowl is good, length of handle and its balance is very comfortable. Also Looks amazing.

Beautiful spoon

Beautiful spoon! A little larger than I thought, even for the little dipper. But that's okay. In case anyone also uses a magnetic bar to hold their spoons, the little dipper is not ferromagnetic!
