TIMEMORE Crystal Eye Dripper (Plastic)

I hear good things about this, I'm not experienced enough with pour overs to say how it is just yet compared to the flat bottom shaped Crystal Eye B75. But I thought it would be fun to compare them and see how they differ!

It feels pretty heavy duty and solid / quality plastic. Supposedly plastic is best for thermal stability, and doesn't need preheating vs a heavy ceramic pour over device. Metal I feel would dissipate heat quickly. A thin double-Walled glass brewer might also be a good option, but that would be more $$$ also more fragile.

I figure this should be similar to a V60, but never compared directly, others have and it seems like some people prefer one or the other very slightly but both should be great options. I think it's likely more down to your paper filter choice and brew technique maaaybe.

It's a bit smaller than I thought (very cute!) I think due to it's smaller size it works better for a recipe with a few smaller pours rather than doing blooming and then one big main pour which is what I attempted at first, with coffee 18g in! Seems to have a little higher capacity than the Flat bottom B75 brewer but very close to it for the smaller 1-2 cup size.

I really like the tint level on this one, not too dark, the flat bottom b75 version is almost opaque black which is cool too, but strange they didn't make them match and I prefer the look of this level of tint! But that's what I expected since the photos of the products DO show that, not really a surprise.

Comes with a few sample filters which is nice. On first try I didn't read instructions and the supplied filter didn't sit flush with the walls of the device, but I realized afterwards that instructions say to fold the extra flappy seam part on the filter down, and I believe it fits better / flush that way! I never thought about it, never seen anyone talk about it in their videos, but apparently James Hoffman has been seen doing it in one of his videos, but no one really explained it before so the manual despite it's poor English translation (not bad, just a few spelling mistakes) was actually helpful to a pour over newb like me :D

Gorgeous replacement for my v60 that has just taken too many dishwasher cycles. The way it catches the light is quite beautiful as well. I do wish it had a handle though.

This is a nice alternative dripper to the V60. The walls are much thicker, and the groove design results in a slightly faster drawdown.

Affordable, simple, looks great, works just as expected

I've gotten the larger and smaller size of this now and compared with the B75 and Hario V60.
I think the V60 is my favourite since it brings out more pleasant brightness from a light roasted coffee. It just makes a kinda classic coffee.
When I was comparing this Crystal Eye to the B75 flat bottom brewer I thought this one had more acidity/brightness but still enjoyed the more tea like sweet results of B75.
The Timemore Crystal eye is kind of in between both of them. It's a little more bright than the b75 and also a bit more traditional. It's a good option if you don't like too much brightness or acidity in your coffee but want a little.

Not a fan of brewing coffee in plastic, but hopefully it's safe. There are some benefits of plastic over glass or ceramic (and metal I think)
I don't think you need to pre-heat plastic brewers, but you can. I just pre-wet the filter and warm it up a little by running under hot tap water (but our water isn't set SO hot here).
With ceramic and glass pre-heating is more important, they're also more break-able.

Great product for a great price. Nice and simple, and especially nice for a plastic dripper!

It is well built (honestly much better than Hario) and it shares the same filter with v60 02. I feel it drips a bit faster than Hario. All in all it is a great dripper

The water draws down faster than the V60, in my opinion, which I think is due to having holes instead of ridges to create some bypass. It's interesting as it is similar to a V60 but brews a somehow different profile. The recipe that came with it recommends 20g of coffee to fill the bottom third of the dripper. I've used both 20 and 30-gram doses, and the 20 gave better results, whereas in the V60, 30g doses work great too.

Great dripper at a great price. It compares well to the V60 but I can taste a little more sweetness in the brews so far. Its worth trying if you want to change things up or do your own comparisons.

Nice to watch my pour over being made. Easy to use too. No hazing or cracking on the plastic after many uses.

Perfect dripper: Is it better than the classic, maybe, for me it makes a very good cup. I find that this design is not as fussy as the classic design.

Love the air hole and the crystal clear colour.

This is definitely a nice dripper and I wander why it is so underrated! Its faster than Hario v60 and I think it brews a more delicious coffee. It is sturdy and the plastic is really thick and gives a kind of glassy feel. Comes with 25 paper filters.

While my comparison point seems to be a bit far, using the hario mugen, I found that this pourover really to have enough of a unique experience to try.
it provided a level of clarity that opened some flavours that my mugen couldnt, with my technique. the sweetness, as well, is really splendid and present. definitely worth a try, though I found that the plastic holder to be a bit problematic.
Using it with the timemore server will provide no problems, but when used with the cruve charafe, or a jar, they made the inner ring just big enough that it cannot be fitted on top. it balances perfectly on the lip, asking to fall. So, if you are to buy this by itself, make sure to have some form of server that is large enough to fit it over it.

This is a great little pour over filter. I don’t like how it doesn’t spiral as easily as the V60 but I do think it retains heat much better than the V60. So I suppose it depends on what you think matters most.
